April showers bring May flowers, and flowers bring bees. This summer everyone should have the proper knowledge to keep their families safe from bees. Here are a few tips on hive prevention and background information about bees. Keep in mind, it is highly recommended seeking the help of a professional.

Bumble Bees:

The bumble bee is common across the United States. They are known to be very aggressive and can also sting multiple times. Bumble bees are very protective of their nests, which are usually found underground, but it is also common to find them in places such as attics. To prevent bumble bees from establishing nests on or around your property make sure to fill all animal holes or burrows. Check for any holes in the exterior of your attic, and make sure any existing attic windows seal properly. If you come across an existing nest, or feel the need to take action against bees on your property, it is highly recommended to call a professional. Killing a few bees here and there will not affect the source of the problem.

Honey Bees:

Honey bees are another common bee found throughout the United States. Honey bees as well as bumble bees are very important to the environment because they pollinate many plants and crops. Honey bees will sting, but only once. Be quick to remove the stinger, because it can become very painful if not taken out immediately. Honey bees are common in areas with flowers, or flowering trees. When flowers finish blooming, the risk of harm will decrease. If you discover a honey bee nest on your property and wish to have it removed, keep in mind that you must also remove the honey filled hive. If the nest itself is not removed, overtime it will cause odors and possible pest infestation.
