Coins Make Excellent and Interesting Gifts

Coins make great gifts and they are easy to purchase. There are also so many different kinds of coins. Coins for the most part do not lose their value and there different ways of getting the coins. There are different coins for different occasions. One way of giving coins as gifts is to have the coin graded and slabbed. Slabbed means placed in a holder to make the coin more attractive and to add information about the coin. For example the holder will have the type of coin and the year the coin was minted and what grade the coin was graded. Grading is subjective but for the most part PR70 means it is a perfect coin and PR69 means almost perfect and so forth. 

There are different grading scales but again having a 1940 Silver Quarter from the US Mint at PR66 would be a very nice gift. This is also a good way of giving foreign coins since the holder will tell a little about the coin of choice and what country it is from. There are several ways of getting graded and slabbed coins. One can go to a coin show and purchase them out right. One can go to online stores and order them on line. An example of this kind of website is http://www.cheapslabs.com . Another way of obtaining these types of coins is to go on an auction site such as Ebay and bid on one. I just obtained a PR70 (Proof) Nevada Quarter for under $10.00 and it is slabbed in a holder and this will keep the coin protected and worth more than I paid for it. 

Another way of giving coins as a gift is giving coins in a special set to the person in question. The US Mint offers several packages as gift sets such as the new nickels or the proof sets of the coins for that year which include the penny, the nickel, the dime, the quarter, and the half dollar. There are several websites like the US Mint that you can get these very attractive sets online. Do a google search for US Mint and you should get at least 59 million hits which should keep you busy searching for coin gifts.
