Bones is an American television drama shown on the Fox network. The show is a forensic criminal procedural starring David Boreanaz (of Buffy and Angel fame) and Emily Deschanel (of no previous fame). The show premiered on September 13, 2005 and recently concluded its second season.

Deschanel plays the part of Dr. Temperance Brennan, a character original created by forensic anthropologist turned novelist Kathy Reichs who is also a producer on the show. Brennan is primarily employed by the Jeffersonian Institution but she is also a best-selling writer. She s intellectually brilliant but seems to lack basic social skills and cultural knowledge.

Boreanaz's character is FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth. He was once an Army sniper but now services as the bureau's liaison with the Jeffersonian Institute. He refers to Dr. Brennan as Bones and she is his unofficial partner in solving crimes involving bodies in varying stages of decay.

The other regular characters include the following:

Angela Pearly-Gates Montenegro (portrayed by Michaela Conlin). She is arguably the most normal original cast member. She is an artist who specializes in forensic facial reconstruction at the Institution. In an odd move, the part of her father is played by a member of ZZTop (Billy Gibbons).

Dr. Zach Addy (actor Eric Millegan), is a child prodigy who began the show as Dr. Brennan's assistant at Jeffersonian. After completing his first doctorate, he is now a forensic anthologist in his own right. He and Bones are tied in the “most socially awkward contest.

Dr. Jack Hodgins (portrayed by T. J. Thyne), is an entomologist who also specializes in the composition of dirt and spores. He is a conspiracy theorist who oddly hails from one of the wealthiest families in the country, a fact which he prefers to keep quiet.

Dr. Camille Saroyan (actress Tamara Taylor), enters the picture during the second season as the new head of the Forensic Division. She seems very normal in comparison to the others. She and Agent Booth had a romantic relationship as some unspecified time in the past.
