I really wish I could think of something to write on this subject but I can not. Or probably not what is really wanted here right now.

So you may be wondering why the title of this article is "All My Favorite Television Shows".
Well I have a reason, believe it or not.

A few years ago, we stopped watching television. There are many reason we quit watching television. From the programs that were on to the commercials.

I really wish there were programs on that I could feel comfortable watching. But right now as far as I know there are not. I do not like to watch shows that are full of cursing, the occult or violence. To me that shows that the person who wrote the program is not very creative. At least in ways that are productive to living a good life.

Many people can come up with television shows or ideas for shows, that have a lot of nudity, (or practical nudity), cursing and violence. Sometimes I wonder if the increase in crime is because people are wanting to act out what they see on television. Or maybe television is giving people ideas of how to commit more and more different types of violent crimes.

The kind of shows I like are the old fashioned shows. Shows like The Walton's, The Brady Bunch, Leave it to Beaver, Father Knows Best, Andy Griffin shows. These shows to me had character, and almost always seemed to have a moral lesson intertwined.

These were good family shows that for the most part you did not have to sit with remote in hand to mute out offensive comments, or language. Now it is easier to just not even have a television in the house. Because even the commercials have much to be desired.

Takeaways
  • Television violence is one reason we no longer watch televsion.
  • People in the entertainment industry have a high potential to effect the world for good.
  • Even if you are not famous you do have the ability to influence the lives of others.
Did You Know?
Repeated viewing of violence has been shown to make people more tolerate of violent acts towards others.

Many families have chosen to give up television because of the violence and sexual content shown.

Todays TV is like dumpster diving- you might occassionally find something worth salvaging ( The History Channel, Animal Planet, Teh Learning Channel), but do you really want to have to sort through all the garbage to find those few?

I too agree that is why I wrote the article " When Commericals Cross the Line" awhile back. It is sickening the stuff that is put out there in front of our children. Glad to see other parents feel the same. Maybe if everyone stopped watching television for awhile then the networks would be forced to change due to drops in ratings.

I think we've lost tv as a suitable passtime. You're right; it has changed us, and not for the better.

I too love those old time shows like the Waltons. I don't have cable or satellite though so I watch very little tv also. Very good article.

The Waltons and Leave It to Beaver are two of my favorite shows, along with Little House on the Prairie.
