High Rise Denim Jeans
Spotting new trends on celebrities means only one thing : it is destined to trickle down to the huddled masses, whether we like it or not.
People are glad to not to have to see vertical smiles and muffin top ( bulging of skin above the waistband of low rise jeans). People being the extremists that they are, they feel it must be one or the other. A mid rise is probably most flattering on the majority of people. If you have a short torso, one woman's low rise is your mid rise. If you have a longer torso, another woman's low rise is barely legal for you to wear in public.
Just as low rise has its dangers, higher rises can create problems. They sometimes do unflattering things to the crotch area. They can accentuate a tummy, making even the flat ones look poochy. They also might make the behind look larger. Also, they are just not as comfortable as low rise. With all these things in mind, why in the world would anyone want them? Well, they're the latest style, naturally. And people want to rebel from the low rise jean, due to the over-abundance of the plumber offense. It's as if they would like to say, "I am so against low rise that I will cover my torso in as much denim as possible, no matter what it does to my butt and gut!" Yes, a higher rise does elongate the leg, but at what cost?
For the vast majority of people, a mid rise or a modest low rise is most flattering. For those liking a higher rise, they must remember that fit is very important. The weight and type of denim will affect the fit. A thin tight denim that clings to every curve (I'm looking at you, Jessica) will not flatter. Not sizing up when they are too tight will not flatter. A funny fit in the crotch will not flatter.
