As a Republican, I wouldn't vote for Mitt Romney if he were the last Republican in the race.

You may have heard of 'Yellow Dog Democrats', a descriptive phrase meaning that a true blue Democrat would vote for a yellow dog before they'd vote for a Republican. Myself, I'm a split ticket Republican-I'm registered with the Republican party, but I vote with my conscience.

My conscience would never let me vote for Mitt Romney. Oh, he has similar values that I have, but he has a fatal flaw-he believes that science fiction is real. He's a Mormon.

I believe that religious freedom is one of our most basic American rights. I don't believe that someone who is active in what I was raised to believe, and still believe is a cult, should be in the highest office in the land.

Mitt Romney is one of the Republican candidates for President. I agree with his stance on immigration, I don't believe in amnesty for the immigrants who've broken the law. I agree with him that education is important. I agree with his stance on sexual offenders and that keeping them behind bars with longer sentences is the right thing to do.

His fiscal record in Massachusetts is impressive, balancing his budget the first year in office is phenomenal. I agree that the tax-code must be simplified and that the government must control its spending.

I agree with him in his belief that abortion is wrong, except in extreme cases, such as rape, incest or the mother's life is in danger.

I absolutely agree that we should increase our technology prowess here at home, and not rely on foreign importation. I agree with him that the government needs to do more to encourage home-grown technological ability, including defense and energy saving technologies.

A definition of the word 'Cult' reads- a religion or sect regarded as unorthodox or spurious, also its adherents.

The Mormon religion is a man-made religion based on the teachings of a man named Joseph Smith. His Book of Mormon is considered by the 'Latter Day Saints', the moniker they like to be referred by, to be on par with the Bible as a God given scripture.

This is why church and state are kept separate- so that issues as insignificant as a candidate's religion does not prevent them from holding office.

It's called the Bible. The inspired word of God in which this nation was founded on. Christianity is not a "religion." It's a personal relationship with Jesus Christ who walked this earth and was raised from the dead. It's not too late to give your life to Christ. The great thing about this nation is that we are free to believe what we want, but come judgement day, only then you will be accountable.

As far as I can tell, all religions are man-made. Lest you can PROVE a God has spoken directly to you and given you specific directives. As other posters have said, religions are based on faith, things in which you believe. However, I actually think it has more to do with culture and passing of traditions than anyhing else. Oh yeah, I agree....you are a F!@#. ROMNEY RULES!!!

p.s. What a fuck you are for posting such a negative view of mormons. The mormons are no more out there than any other faith, burning bushes, bloody rivers etc all faiths have something crazy in them or they would not be called faiths.

excuse me, but how it a burning bush any more believable than this mormon crap? religion is not based on fact in any case. You're a bigot. Mitt Romney is a flip-flopper, and furthermore, a general douche bag, so there are at least two better reasons not to vote for him.

this article does a lot more to show Romney's positive qualities than negative ones...thanks for showing me there's more about him than just being a mormon

I had an article published today criticizing Governor Romney for that part of his "religion speech" that asserted one had to be a religious person to love freedom, thus twisting the church-state relationship on its head! But to condemn a believer in one particular faith to never participate in the electoral process because someone does not agree with some of that church's beliefs is bigotry, pure and simple. This article is a prime example of that bigotry.

This is the dumbest and most bigoted writing I've ever seen. NOTE: I am not a Mormon.

This post has very badly portrayed the beliefs of the LDS religion. Please go to www.mormon.org or www.lds.org to read about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

I'll be voting for Mitt Romney now...thanks. What does a candidate's religion have to do with anything?

This is filled with completely inacurate information about the LDS Church. Some research and fact checking can help with that. Also, the constitution prohibits a religious test for holding office. This is bigoted and if I thought anyone would give it any credibility I would be offended but right now I am just laughing. Vote for who you want but don't spread hate.

Then you are against religious freedom for all Americans, and equality for all Americans. He should have the same right as any other candidate to be judged on his issues, just as he does his colleagues.

This is one, big, bigoted contradiction. She agrees with everything Romney stands for, but because of his religion (recognized as such by the government), refuses to vote for him. I guess you'll be casting your vote then for someone you don't necessarily agree with? And we wonder what's wrong with the political system in America... It's the voter's.

The writer above says that she wants to maintain the separation of church and state then hypocritically goes on to talk about why she wont vote for a man who is mormon. If that isn't combining church and state that what is?
