Tequila: Mexican Restaurant on South Pleasantburg Drive, Greenville, SC

The recently opened Tequila Mexican Restaurant may not be housed in the most attention getting building, but their service deserves the highest praise.

Located at 349 South Pleasantburg Drive in Greenville, SC, the former Pizza Hut has been transformed into a low key Mexican restaurant. The interior has been completely remodeled in the past year and offers a spotless dining room. The moment you walk in the door the cheery wait staff welcomes you to one of the twenty-five or so tables. The smallness allows for impeccable service.

As soon as your party is seated a warm basket of tortilla chips is whisked to your table along with freshly made salsa. This salsa appears hand prepared and tastes better by far than most salsas offered at Mexican restaurants. Hot salsa is brought to every table, but you can request mild.

Listed on the menu are eleven lunch specials all at $5.95 (served Monday through Friday 11:00am to 3:00 pm).

I ordered the Pollo Chihuahua lunch and my companion ordered the Chimichanga lunch. Our entrees arrived quick and hot. The Pollo Chihuahua is a chicken breast with a green sauce. Every lunch entrée comes with Mexican rice and refried beans. The pollo was very tasty, cooked until tender with a perfect amount of seasoning. One of my complaints at most Mexican restaurants is that they are too heavy handed with salt and pre-made/packaged foods. The refried beans tasted fresh and undoctored. While I am usually not a fan of refried beans, I actually enjoyed eating these at Tequila.

Other items on the menu include the expected fare: fajitas, combo plates (burritos, tacos, enchiladas, etc...), beef and seafood (a good variety of seafood). Special items of interest: Cheviche Mixto (shrimp, octopus, cilantro onions, tomatoes, peppers and special red sauce), Virgin Daiquiri (banana, strawberry, mango and peach) and Virgin Pina Colada.

Also included is a children's menu for "kids 10 and under, includes drink."

The staff offer service with a smile and seem to jump at the opportunity to make sure everything is going well with your meal.
