Gone are the days of tight, revealing mini skirts and way-too-high heels (well, almost). More and more women are embracing the concept that less is more, and are donning vintage and novelty fashions that make a bold-and stylish statement. Covering up skin can indeed by sexy and flattering, and certain vintage styles can fit your curves and make you feel comfortable and confident. Pencil skirts. These skirts are best worn by slender and medium body types, or if you have a long torso and medium to long legs. The pencil skirt is somewhat of a variation of skirts worn in the 60s and 70s, and looks best with heels or wedges. The skirt is both sexy and modest because it usually comes right below the knees and reveals the calves without being too revealing, which makes this style of skirt perfect for work or professional meetings. For a completely vintage look, try pencil skirts in materials like tweed and suede.
'Large tie' shirts. Shirts with large front ties are slightly reminiscent of the Old English era, but were made popular again in the 70s and 80s to give women a conservative yet stylish look for the office. You can find these shirts in a variety of colors at many of your local department stores, but you can also check out Grandma's closet for large tie shirts that would look great with a large belt for cinching, a pencil skirt, or a great pair of slacks.
Mary Janes. You may remember these shoes from your younger days at a little girl on your way to church or picture day at school. These shoes, complete with strap and buckle and a patent leather finish were worn with any 'nice' outfit, and made you feel pretty and grown up. Mary Jane shoes are available in adult varieties as well, and will give your vintage outfit a nostalgic look that is especially trendy these days. Stores like Nordstrom or Neiman Marcus will definitely have what you need, but you can also visit your local thrift store to find great varieties of Mary Janes, both in flat and heel varieties. These shoes not only look great with skirts and pants, but go well with dressy shorts that are popular this season.
