Be an Advocate for Your Child

If your child is not doing well in school there are a number of things that you could consider to help your child to succeed. This article details some of the things that you should consider doing to help a struggling child.First you need to decide what is the problem? Is it the fact that he learns in a certain way or that he has special needs? Look after your child. Does your child learn best kinesthetically, audibly, or visually?
Second, make a bond with your child's teacher. Making bonds with those in charge of your child's schooling is a blessing. It helps the teacher and parent work together as a cohesive group with both ends of the equation working to help your child through his problems. It is not unreasonable to ask for a meeting with the teacher or to request that your child be sat in front of the room. Ask the teacher for suggestions of ways that you can help your child at the home base.
Communication with your child's teacher is truly of the utmost importance whether or not your child is struggling. One helpful idea is creating a "Work Book" where teachers can list the assignments of the night or write a note to the parent about problems. This type of communication is great for parents who are unsure of what to do or to get a specific answer as to what a child has to do that night. Ask the teacher to write notes to you like, "English Paper due Monday, assignment sheet is in bag." Be reasonable and polite with the teacher, this is not within their job description but most decent teachers will have no problem helping out a parent.
