Tips on Helping a Sick Friend

I remember a few years back my wife had the flu and was stuck in bed for almost two weeks. She was in no condition to do any household chores and take care of a new baby. I wasn't able to stay at home because I had to go to work. A friend of hers found out she was sick with the flu and offered to help her out. I was so happy and surprised. We didn't ask her for help but she willingly offered to help my wife. She was an example of what a real friend is. She helped by washing the dishes, cooking and watching the baby. I felt she really went over and beyond what a good friend is. I learned from her example and have thought about some good ways a person can help a sick friend.Keep your friend company. Depending on how sick your friend is they will probably be bored lying in bed all day and might want some company. Call your friend and see how they are doing. Find out if you can come over and chat. When you do visit limit your visit between a half an hour to an hour. Remember your friend is sick and talking for a long time can also be draining for the body.
Help out around the house. A good example is the friend who helped me she did the cooking, clean and watched my baby. You can ask your friend what they would like help with and help them out.
Make a fun bag. Place different fun things such as a game, puzzle, simple art project or anything else that comes to mind in a creative looking bag. This will help boost their spirits and keep the busy when they get a burst of energy.
Send flowers and a note. This is a wonderful way to communicate to your friend that you're thinking about them without interfering with their rest. It's also a nice surprise and will make your friend feel better.
Tell your friend how you feel about them. Loving and caring words are a wonderful way to show how you feel. The will feel appreciated and loved by your kind words.
Bring a good book or a funny movie. Pick a book or a movie that will cheer your friend up and get them into good spirits.
These are some tips that I think will help your sick friend to feel better. They will feel good about your thoughtfulness during their time of need.
