Those who know me well know that I am on the quest for the world's most perfect burrito. While I am not sure that I have found it yet, one taqueria in Santa Cruz, California sure has come close to making the world's perfect burrito. The place is called Taqueria Michoacan and is located on East Cliff Drive in Santa Cruz, California. While the jury is still out on whether their burritos are the best in the world, Taqueria Michoacan easily makes the best burritos in Santa Cruz County, and possibly in California. While Taqueria Michoacan serves a variety of Mexican dishes in its quaint hole-in-the-wall location, it is one item in particular that I consider to be the best on their menu and perhaps the best burrito I have ever had: a chorizo super burrito. Chorizo is a type of spicy pork sausage, which is usually just dripping with spicy grease. The chorizo super burrito incorporates chorizo, sour cream, rice, cabbage, and other ingredients into a gigantic flour tortilla. The defining characteristic of this burrito is the spiciness of the chorizo juxtaposed with the coolness of the cabbage and sour cream. Words simply cannot do justice to the incredibleness of such a delicious burrito. For those who do not like chorizo, though, Taqueria Michoacan offers a wide variety of meat choices including carne asada, chicken, and some exotic meats such as al pastor and cabeza.
Taqueria Michoacan also offers the best quesadillas I have ever tasted, and both my wife and I always pick up a few of the quesadillas whenever we stop by Taqueria Michoacan. The quesadillas are just dripping in grease and offer a generous proportion of cheese inside. Needless to say, Taqueria Michoacan is not the place to visit if you are concerned with eating healthily. The quesadillas are best served with sour cream, and you can also order small containers of sour cream if you need your food to-go.
