A Suggestion on Rising Gas Prices

For the first time ever today, when my children's grandmother came by to pick the girls today and told me that gas prices in town had raised to $3.59 a gallon; I rushed out and got in line at the Murphy's gas station in front of our local Wal-Mart. Grandma told me they were still at $3.23 a gallon or $3.20 a gallon if you have a Wal-Mart gift card. I normally go inside and load up a card, but was scared they would raise the prices before I could get in there and back out to the station. I got in line and waited 15 minutes to fill up my gas tank. Good thing I did though, because I did go into Wal-Mart to pick up a few things and when I came out it had risen to $3.58 a gallon. I was inside Wal-Mart less than five minutes. What I can't figure out is why our government is letting this happen. Why they haven't step in to investigate it is obvious that there is Price Fixing going on here. The prices of gas keeps rising and is hurting Americans nation wide. The poor and middle class are feeling the affects more than the upper middle class and the wealthy in our nation. While the oil and gas companies are reporting record profits. The 2006 profit topped Exxon Mobil's own previous record of $36.13 billion .
I am from Indiana, I don't claim to be the smartest person , but it don't take an idiot to figure out that the American government is failing us big time. The governor in my state is Mitch Daniels rep. He was quoted saying this week, "That the state of Indiana could suspend the State tax on gas, because it make us go in the red. Indiana can't afford it."
He just lease our toll roads to an Australian company for Billions of dollars. They payment from that should keep Indiana in the black for over 25 years if used properly. Suspending the tax on gas or reducing it does mean a lot to the people who are having a hard time making ends meet.
