Pregnancy should be a beautiful time in a woman's life. A brief period in her life where she is at one with another human being. However, try telling that to her while she is on her knees over the toilet with sickness. For the lucky few who never experience this, count your blessings you are incredibly lucky. As for the rest of us ladies, we must learn to cope with the horrors of morning sickness until time passes and it slowly fades away.

There is no confirmed medical reason behind why we get morning sickness while pregnant. The reasoning is most likely due to the extreme changes going on in her body during this time. There are theories of why this happens to many women during this time. Her rapidly increasing hormones known as HCG, nausea tends to peak around the most extreme times of increase in this hormone. Other theories involve increasing estrogen and heightened sense of smells.

Many women carrying multiples tend to have more extreme cases of morning sickness. Ladies carrying a female fetus also have been noted for more severe cases of nausea.

Although contrary to the name, morning sickness can come and go at any time throughout the day. Most women have the worst cases typically in the morning. Taking a prenatal vitamin early in the day has also been known to contribute to early in the day sickness. I would advise most women to take their prenatal in the evening time with dinner. This has been reported to help many women reduce sickness early on in the day.

Nausea will not harm your fetus as long as it is not preventing you from holding food or liquids down. If you are vomiting to the point where you can keep anything inside your stomach, you need to consult a physician immediately. Your baby is constantly in need of nutrients and growth defects can occur if he or she does not receive them. Be sure to keep a balanced diet the best you can during this difficult time. Although it is OK to indulge a bit in foods that make you feel better. Those food cravings can get the best of us! Just be glad for the first trimester that you are getting the calories needed and you should be fine riding into the second portion of your pregnancy.
