Music Review: Earshot

I almost missed out on a CD that offers an enveloping melody fueled by passion and pain and intertwined among guitars and lyrics that will give you chills when they hit home. Earshot will grip you tight and stop you in your thoughts. Earshot is able to take the most heart felt emotions and unite them into a mesmerizing collection of songs you'll listen to over and over again. The name of the CD is Two. It released in 2004, though I never heard a single song or even heard their name until a few months ago. I am completely irritated that so many people possibly missed out on this CD. I stumbled across it by accident. I bought it. I love it. Their official website reports a new album will be releasing some time in 2007.

Earshot's CD titled Two features eleven songs. The lyrics take emotional distress and transform it into passionate, yet dark songs that express most accurately the way every one feels at one time or another in their life. While each song follows a similar sound, the lyrics separate each song.

The first song, "Wait", reflects the emotions of having to wait. Waiting for someone to love you, waiting for someone to love, or maybe waiting for the pain to subside after losing both; it seems like there is always something to wait for.

"Tongue-Tied" follows with lyrics describing more pain that people don't discuss with each other. The thoughts that envelope you in your darkest moments are brought to life.

"Fall Apart" draws you in with lyrics that describe everything falling apart. The beat behind the song pulls the song together. After you are captured by the beat, the lyrics wash over you. There isn't a person out there who can't relate to this song.

"Someone" again takes you to moments when you have felt that you just wanted to be understood, accepted, and loved. Those moments when you just wanted to have someone you could trust and never be alone again. It is a song of regret over mistakes made that left you where you are now.

"Rotten Inside" delves into the self hatred we inflict upon ourselves. When you see the worst in someone, but then you realize you are the same.
