The American Idol finale is wrapping up. Many American's will voted for either Jordin or Blake. I, for one, didn't cast a vote for either.

American Idol is a joke. Did you know that there are more votes for American Idol contestants than for the last presidential election? The American people would rather decide the American Idol than they would like to decide the president. Who's at fault here? I think for one you have to look at American politics. Candidates for office seem robotic, only saying what they think you want to hear. You can't connect on a personal level with most politicians. They seem out of reach, protected, and products of their party. Look at an American Idol contestant. The show asks them candid questions and they give candid answers. We get to see their past and their future. We see them cry and laugh. How many politicians show this kind of emotion?

The American culture is to blame as well. Everyone wants instant gratification. Within a few days, we can see the results of our vote for American Idol. With political elections, it may take years for us to see results. Often times, the results are broadcasted like American Idol. Politicians pass laws that effect us in ways we can't see. Maybe if we broadcasted in primetime the passing of a bill, the American people would be excited. Or maybe we should have our upcoming presidential candidates.

I would vote for anyone that doesn't accept their life partners indiscretions so lightly, I did not have sexual encounters! rubbish! where is the line drawn, honesty in a family unit is paramount to a good relationship, let alone governing a country.

My friends and I have actually talked about this before. And, in theory, I actually think an American Idol format for politics (debating, not singing) would be better than the way things work now. But considering a large part of AI voters aren't old enough to vote for the Prez, hard to know if that format would actually work with a different age group, etc.
