When it comes to those people who should be on the top of your list to get to know when you begin college your academic advisor should definitely be on the top of your list. But you are probably wondering exactly what does the academic adviser does and why should you take the time to meet this person?

Well first of all if you have any problems with your schedule and need to make any changes this is definitely the person that you will need to speak with. They are the ones who will be able to have your schedule changed or rearranged to whatever you would prefer. They are also their to help you and guide you academically. They will help you to make decisions such as deciding on your major. Most student s start college not knowing exactly what they plan on doing with their life and often worry about wasting time and money on classes that they really don't want or need to take. That is definitely where your academic advisor will come in handy. They will do their best to find out what you are best suited for and help you to reach that goal. If you are starting out new to college whether young or old are it really does not matter. The important thing is that you take the time to get all of the help from the many resources that are made available to you.

There are those who feel that college is just a place to go and goof off and sort of find themselves. What many don't realize is how much money they end up wasting by taking so much time trying to decide what is that they would like to do with their lives. Remember that college is not supposed to be about partying. Of course there is nothing wrong with having the occasional good time every once in a while, but it is very important that you take the time to focus on your adult life. Once you enter college they will treat you like adult and no one will be there to hold you hand.

Takeaways
  • Take the time to visit their office.
  • It really is in your best interest.
  • They may be able to help you more than you think.
