The actress Yunjin Kim stars on the hit television drama "Lost," playing the sympathetic role of crash survivor Sun Kwon. Read on to learn all about Yunjim Kim, including her background as a "cool girl with a gun," and what character on "Lost" she prefers over her own. These ten facts will show you the hottest actress on TV in a whole new light. 1. Yunjin Kim was born in Korea, but at the age of ten her family moved to the United States, where she was raised on Staten Island, a borough of New York City.
2. Yunjin Kim has a strong background in movement, with extensive dance and fighting experience. Her many skills include ballet, jazz, afro-carribean and peking opera styles of dance. She is trained for unarmed, quarter staff, and broad sword combat, as well as tae kwon do.
3. As a teenager, Kim went to the New York High School for the Performing Arts, the school that loosely inspired the musical "Fame."
4. Like her "Lost" character Sun Kwon, Yujin speaks fluent Korean and English. According to interviews, she sometimes advised the "Lost" writers about how to make Sun and Jin's backstory more realistic to Korean culture, and how to make the Korean lines more idiomatic than the literal translations that they were working with. She says of the show's script: "I put a lot of my little ideas into it."
5. Kim first auditioned for the part of fugitive Kate on "Lost." The producers were so inspired by her reading of the scenes that they created the part of Sun specifically for her.
6. Yunjin Kim has gained a substantial U.S. fanbase from her work on "Lost," but many American fans are unaware of her massive stardom in Asia. She has been called "The Korean Julia Roberts" due to her box office popularity, but her roles have been primarily as action heroines. She told one reporter that her nickname in Korean is "Woman Warrior" because for years she played "every cool girl with a gun" in Asian cinema. She has described many of her action roles as "ball breakers."
