So you and your family have decided that your pet should not be the traditional dog or cat, but a cute furry little bunny. If you and your family adopt a rabbit you should know that they will require care just as any other pet you would bring into the family. They will be dependant on you for their food, water, cleaning of their cage, and medical care.

When you are considering a rabbit you should be aware that there are difference types of rabbits. You will find that the most common rabbits are lop-eared rabbits, dwarf, and cottontail when it comes to rabbits which are good for pets. There are some rabbits which should be kept indoors. If you wish to house your rabbit in a cage outside you should consider the cottontail rabbit as they do better in various weather conditions. Lop-eared rabbits are the ones which have long floppy ears and grow to a larger size. The dwarf rabbit as its name implies, is a smaller variety of rabbit.

If you have never had a rabbit before as a pet, the best thing to do is to talk with your vet first to get advice on how best to care for your new family member. You will need to make sure your pet rabbit is taken to the vet and has all necessary shots, just as you would for a dog or a cat.

You will more than likely decide to feed your rabbit pellets. These pellets can be purchased from you pet supply store or Wal-Mart. Like any other pet you will no doubt like to give your rabbit special treats. Rabbits love carrots, and lettuce. Rabbits are so cute when they are crunching on a carrot or other veggies. Rabbits also enjoy fruit, but this is a food that should be limited and not fed to your pet every day. Be aware that rabbits can easily become overweight. Do feed you rabbit each day the recommended amounts of food.
