"Put a little more seasoning in that, will you, mother?"
"Hey wifey, didn't I tell you I prefer my steak well done?"
Suddenly we don't feel so lucky to have our mothers and wives cooking for us anymore. After all, they are supposed to cook, aren't they? Wouldn't it be nice if they added a little variety to the menu?
There is one more group of unfortunates that I left off the cooking list. They go by the name of girlfriends. Believe it or not, there are some girlfriends who cook for their boyfriends on a regular basis. Shocking isn't it? I'm not speaking of the occasional birthday brunch, or Father's day lunch. I'm speaking of the type of cooking that involves a man expecting that when he comes home from work, he can just stop by his girlfriend's house and she will have a specially-made dish ready for him.
Since I don't have a love affair with cooking, it baffles me that some girlfriends are their boyfriends' cooks. Why do they do it? Some just love to cook and believe that cooking is what girlfriends do for their men. However, some have more manipulative reasons for cooking. Unfortunately that reason backfires most of the time. They lavish their boyfriends with tasty meals in the hope that their boyfriends will make a connection between their cooking and the concept of a wife cooking for her husband. It is pure self interest. However, the association of wife-girlfriend is usually a negative association rather than a positive one.
