I stumbled upon this show quite by accident. I was recovering from the birth of my second child in the hospital and was flipping through trying to find something to watch to distract me from my pain. Enter Lost. I joined mid-season and really meant to watch the show when it premiered since it looked so interesting. But you know how it goes; I was unable to tune in because of a remote hogging husband.

The storyline intrigued me, passengers from a plane that crashes over a tropical island with no hope in sight for rescue, having been off course by over 1,000 miles. The main characters are generally visually appealing, with Matthew Fox of Party of Five fame as Jack Shepherd, the only doctor around to tend to the injured passengers. As the days pass, strange things happen on the island. People are being kidnapped one day and chased by dinosaurs the next. It is sheer chaos!

Interspersed with the island goings-on, we are treated to flashbacks of the passenger's lives prior to getting on that fateful plane ride to hell. We learn that Kate is a gun toting arsonist who blew up her step daddy because he beat her mom. Sawyer is a con artist who is the love em' and leave em' kind. Hurley spent some time in a mental institution where he first heard those numbers on the hatch, numbers that made him a millionaire by playing the lottery. It seems that just about everybody has crossed paths with someone else connected to one of the passengers on the island! Talk about 6 degrees of separation! Just this season we learned that Claire, who gave birth on the island with the help of Kate, is actually Jack's half sister! I am sure I am not the only one grateful that Jack wasn't the one delivering that baby!

Tropical serenity? Think again! This island is no vacation spot!

I've been watching the show on dvd and I feel it's one of the best shows out there along with 24. My fiance and I are watching Season 3 now and it's SOOOOO good. I can't wait until Season 4 is released on dvd.

The last episode of this past season really made up for all the misguided episodes they had earlier in the year- now I am looking forward to seeing more.
