Now, use some painter's tape to mask off a simple square or rectangle. This flat headboard should be at least as wide as your bed. You can make it as tall or short as you want.

Now, move the bed away from the wall and start painting in your flat headboard. You can paint this as a solid block of color. You could also let the first coat dry and then add stripe, polka dots, r even more squares in the middle! Choose a color that will stand out in your bedroom and make a statement.

This simple painted headboard will give the elusion of grounding your bed against the wall jus like a traditional headboard.

Stencil a headboard for the perfect flat headboard for a small space. Choose a stencil that looks like a piece of ironwork. Try to choose a simple stencil that is easy to repeat.

Again, all you need to do it tape off that square to keep in mind hour large your small space headboard needs to be. To create dimension paint on the stencil in a nice gray shadow color. Remove the stencils and let this paint dry. Now, a day later replace the stencils. You want to align the stencil back on top of the first layer of paint.
