Summer is here now, and if you're like me you have a heck of a time keeping your make-up from melting once the temperature rises. I used to have all kinds of problems because I have combination skin and so I can get dry skin in spots and breakouts where it is oily. Before you even think about putting make-up on, be sure to wash your face with an oil-free cleanser. If you are prone to breakouts, you might also want to use a bit of astringent in the areas of your face that are oily if you are like me and have combination skin. In the areas you have dry skin such as under the eyes perhaps as I do, you might want to add a bit of moisturizer to keep these areas smooth and flake free.
The first thing to keep in mind when you're applying make-up in the summer months is to not put several layers on your face. This has a tendency to clog pores and can make any existing problems you might have with your skin even worse. So, put away the heavy cream foundations and instead use a tinted lotion for your first layer. Banana Boat has a new sunless tanning lotion that will just do the trick. The cool thing about it is that it has a built in dial which allows you to decide how much of a tint you want for your skin! You can choose from a subtle glow to a deep bronze. It has a slight fragrance, is oil-free, is a moisturizer, and dries fast. The best part is that a 6.7 oz bottle retails for $11.99.
I personally don't choose to wear anything on my eyes such as eye shadow, eyeliner or mascara, mainly because I have allergies and my eyes tend to itch this time of year. Because of this I rub my eyes more than I should and anytime I try to put make-up on them I have a tendency to just rub it off in the first hour, or smear it. However, if you like to wear eye make-up my suggestion is to choose luminous colors such as pearl white, or pink or a light lavender for example for your eye shadow. A bit of eyeliner can also help to define your eyes. Make sure you choose eyeliner that is waterproof to keep melting make-up to a minimum. If you choose to use mascara don't coat the entire lash with it, instead just coat the tips of your lashes first, let it dry and then add another coat. Make sure each coat is very light.
