How to Build a Lamp Out of Wood Shutters
Vintage Shutter Lamp Craft Project
You can repaint the shutters on your Vintage Shutter Lamp to make it blend in or stand out as an accent piece in your home. Be sure to paint your vintage wood shutters before you start making this lamp. The instructions here are only for how to build a Vintage Shutter Lamp.
By the way, if you cannot find any vintage wood shutters in the size you want, simply buy some new wood shutters at you local home improvement store.
To Make a Vintage Shutter Lamp You Will Need:
4 shutters
L brackets (8)
Screws
Power drill
Lamp kit
Pipe (cut to same height as shutters)
Flange
Square of wood (cut to same size as the inside base of the lamp)
The first step is to assemble your Vintage Shutter Lamp. Simply build a tall vertical rectangle out of your vintage shutters. You can use L brackets to hold them together at both the top and the bottom.
Be sure to pre drill the holes, then add the screws.
Now, for the electrical part of this craft project. Simply install your lamp kit on the pipe you had cut to height.
Skew the pipe into the flange first. Have the cords of the lamp kit coming out of the bottom of the flange.
Now, measure the square opening at the top or bottom of the shutters. This is how large you square of plywood needs to be.
Screw the flange and pipe onto the wood square. You should first drill a hole in the middle of the square and have the light cords coming out of it.
Now, place the square with the lamp kit and pipe on it up inside the bottom of the wood shutters. A few inches up inside should work fine.
Pre drill holes and screw it into place.
Now, to make sure your Vintage Shutter Lamp sits level you should pre drill a hole through the back of the lamp. This should be near the bottom of the shutter.
If you used a plantation style shutter that opens and closes you can play around with how open you want the vintage shutter to be.
