The movie, “From Russia With Love” was created by Ian Fleming, a novelist who put his work of literature onto the film screen. As the literary creator of James Bond, Fleming based the Bond series on his own personal experience and life events as well as the world events in the Cold War Europe. Flemings, “From Russia With Love” was certainly not his first James Bond film ever nor was it to be the first to be produces as a film. It was however, what many people regarded as the stepping stone for James Bond popularity and an insight into the Cold War engulfing Europe.

The movie and novel “From Russia With Love” takes place in Istanbul, Turkey. There the famous British secret agent James Bond played by Sean Connery is given a mission to find a Russian woman who has defected from the Russian consulate. Bond must secure a decoding device for the British government which will help them reveal Russian intelligence secrets.

Unbeknownst to Bond, the International crime group called SPECTRE, a terrorist and espionage group have lured Bond into a trap. The Russian woman Tatiana Romanova secretly works for the terrorist group and a trained assassin has been hired by the group to kill Bond and retrieve the decoding device.

In the end, Tatiana falls in love with Bond and 007 is able to successfully kill the assassin and retrieve the decoding device. The novel plays upon the tension in the Cold War between Russia and its communist satellite nations against the forces of Britain and the United States and the free democratic world.
