So You Heard There is Nothing to Do in Scranton, Pennsylvania: A Traveler's Guide

Scranton's, Pennsylvania began it's growth in 1849 when the Scranton brothers formed the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroads from a few smaller lines, in turn that created transportation of goods by steam engine.

There's plenty to do in the Scranton Area, you won't be bored with what this city has to offer.

Steamtown National Historical Site, located in the heart of downtown Scranton. Here you can take in a walking tour of a Locomotive Shop, visit the museums or watch a movie. The best thing about Steamtown is the train rides; you will be able take a half hour ride on a locomotive cab or a historic steam engine. There are plenty of picnic tables to enjoy a lunch from home. There are no food concessions at Steamtown, but there are several restaurants within walking distance. After your visit to Steamtown you will walk away with a better understanding of the history of railroading and how the steam locomotive created our of life today.

Montage Mountain Amphitheater conveniently located less than one mile off interstate 81 via the Montage Mountain/Davis Street Exit. Every year Montage puts on a great concert series. Acts, include; country, rock and oldies but goodies. Some of the artists that will be performing in the summer of 2007 are, Rush, Meatloaf, Toby Keith, Poison, Stevie Nicks, Kenny Chesney, Vans Warped Tour, and Three Days Grace.

Scranton Cultural Center, located in the heart of downtown Scranton. This downtown landmark, hosts a variety of artistic events that range from live music performances to off-Broadway show plus shows performed by local artists. As of today the cultural center is undergoing several phases of restoration. Plans include restoring theater walls and the ceiling, new lighting and sound systems, plus a grand new lobby.

Nay Aug Park located on Mulberry Street in Scranton. This is a great place to get in touch with nature. There are walking trails, picnic areas, 2 playgrounds, two Olympic Sized swimming pools and a water slide park. Waterfalls and a rock gorge add to the beauty of this large park. A great way to spend a relaxing sumer day.
