Nightlife at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront

Like many resort towns, Virginia Beach is chock full of hotels, restaurants, and tourist shops, but how is the nightlife? This is where Virginia Beach is a bit different than other resort towns.

Virginia Beach truly became a beach resort area in the 1950's. During that time, more and more people were purchasing cars and were able to travel to the oceanfront. Roads and hotels were built to accommodate this new influx of visitors. I mention this because it is significant to understanding why the Oceanfront lacks the nightclub/bar scene that many other vacation cities harbor. Please keep this in mind as you review my 3 fave (because it is that hard to make a list any longer!) oceanfront hotspots:

1. Peabody's

Mostly catering to a college-aged crowd, Peabody's is located at the corner of Pacific Avenue and 21^st Street. The music is the typical pop, rap, and alternative rock that you would expect to hear in a club accommodating 20-somethings, but the fun isn't in the music. Perhaps the most excellent feature of Peabody's is their "Jello Shooter" bar serving only perfectly created Jello shots! At Peabody's, Thursday nights are Ladies Nights, Friday is College Night (those with a valid college ID are admitted free), and Saturdays are devoted to the biggest dance party in the area. 2. Ocean Eddie's

Although it is a restaurant by day (and a tasty one at that!), Ocean Eddie's truly comes alive at night. Located at the 15^th Street pier, Ocean Eddie's has a bar, pool table and live music most nights of the week. One of the most notable assets of Ocean Eddie's is location! Because it is built on the pier, you are one with the ocean. This gives Ocean Eddie's a genuinely beach bar feel. 3. The Abyss
