Virginia Beach is a quaint, unique resort town located in the Southeastern corner of Virginia. Built up in the 1950's, Virginia Beach quickly became a favorite vacation spot for residents of Virginia and surrounding areas. Today, Virginia Beach is home to many hotels, restaurants, and must-see places. If you plan to visit Virginia Beach there are some places that cannot go unseen! However, one must look beyond the Boardwalk to discover some of the best places to visit in this area. Here are the top 5 must-see attractions in the Virginia Beach area:

1. Hampton Roads Naval Museum & Battleship Wisconsin

Managed by the United States Navy, the Naval Museum and Battleship Wisconsin is one of the most educational (and fun!) sights to see in the region. This museum encompasses over 220 years of Hampton Roads Naval history. The Battleship Wisconsin, which is run by the museum, is open and available to tour right alongside the museum. You can visit this attraction in downtown Norfolk from Memorial Day through Labor Day, although it is open on a limited basis during the off-season. Hours of operation are 9 AM to 5PM daily. The best part of all, admission is free!

Located right next door to the Hampton Roads Naval Museum, NAUTICUS, or the National Maritime Center, contains a wide variety of exhibits and learning opportunities for the entire family. At NAUTICUS, one can explore all things ocean through hands-on displays, aquariums, and much more. NAUTICUS is open 10 AM to 5PM daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day. During the off-season, NAUTICUS can be visited Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 AM to 5PM and Sunday, from Noon to 5PM. Admission for adults (ages 12+) is $9.95, children (ages 4-12) is $7.50, and discounts are offered for military members as well. Children 3 and under are free.
