Your home will never be the same after you have a baby. I didn't realize this till after my wife and I had our first baby. Then I saw many areas of the home that were dangerous for our baby. I had to change and rearrange things in my home. I also had to added different safety features throughout my home. I have come up with some suggestions that you will want to consider when baby proofing your home.

Fireplace bumper pad. This is a wonderful way to protect your child from the dangerous edges of a fireplace. We have a fireplace and my baby always likes going near it. Often I would find him falling and bumping his head on the edge of the fireplace. I could no longer see this happening so I bought a fireplace bumper pad. You can purchase a pad that is flame resistant from your local home improvement store.

Outlet plugs. Babies tend to stick their fingers in anything that looks like a hole. Most of the outlets in the home are at the baby's eye level which makes poking in the holes easy and convenient.

Table cushions. Like the fireplace a baby can get hurt if they hit their head or body at the ends of the table. You can keep the stylish look of your table by purchasing table cushions that fit only at the corners of the table.

Cabinet locks. Most people keep their toxic stuff such as cleaners and detergent in the cabinets below the sink. Opening and closing the cabinet is something babies enjoy. Once they open up the cabinet and see all the wonderful stuff they will want to explore it. For a baby exploring means touching and tasting. I usually keep my makeup and jewelry in my cabinet. Often Cabinet locks are a wonderful way to keep your baby away from hazardous products.

Electrical cord covers. There have been many incidences that babies have played with the electrical cord and had the cord wrapped up around their necks choking them to death. The electrical cord cover will keep the cord away from the baby's hands.

Stair gates. This is essential if you have a two-story home. Once your baby starts crawling the stairs become a dangerous area. Make sure you have gates installed at the top of the stairs and down below.
