Remove Red Eye from a Picture - Photoshop Tutorial

In this tutorial, you are going to learn how to quickly and effectively get rid of red eye problems in digital photos. It is very common for photos of people to have red eyes. I have seen hundreds of pictures with this problem.

Before we begin, you must know the basics of Photoshop, and know your way around the various areas within Photoshop. You also need to be familiar with the Channels area of Photoshop, but you don't have to know a lot about it for the tutorial.

Now, let us begin.

Step One. The first thing that you will need is a picture that has a problem with red eye. If you are like me, I can just choose about any image, because about all of my picture have the red eye problem. Open that picture in Photoshop.

Step Two. The next thing that you need to do is to zoom in on the eyes so that you can see the red portion clearly.

Step Three. Now, what you need to do is to grab your Lasso Tool. It can be found on the left side of the window, and looks like a lasso rope.

Step Four. Now that you have the lasso tool ready, the next thing to do is to select the red area of the eye with the lasso tool. After selecting the area on the first eye, hold down the Shift key so that you can select the second eye. It is important that you hold down the Shift key while selecting the second eye. Just a note - to make a selection with the lasso tool, you must complete a circle type area.

Step Five. Now that you have the red eyes selected, click on Image at the top of the page, and choose Apply Image.

Step Six. Within the Apply Image window, you want to choose Green in the Channel drop down box, and make sure that the Blending drop down box is set to Darken. These two setting are critical to getting rid of red eye in a picture.

Step Seven. Go ahead and click OK for the Apply Image window, and now you can see that your picture is now red eye free. The only thing left is to de-select which you can do by pressing Ctrl+D on your keyboard.
