One of my favorite summer activities is getting a group of friends together for a "pontooning" boat ride across Lake Jacomo.

Lake Jacomo is located in Fleming Park in Lee's Summit, Missouri. There is much to experience at the park, and you can read more here.

Truly one of the most fun summer activities is renting a pontoon boat for half a day or a full day and barbecuing, swimming, laughing and having fun at the lake. Pontoon boats offered at the park are well covered, have plenty of seating and can hold between 6 to 8 people.

Lake Jacomo Marina is located south of Woods Chapel Road on West Park Road. You can reserve your pontoon by calling (816) 795-8888. The beautiful marina is open during the summer months for dock fishing on weekdays only. With more than 80 watercraft available, this marina is the largest boat rental facility in the Kansas City Metro area. Lake Jacomo Marina also provides the following services:

* Full Service Convenience Store
* Bait and Tackle
* State Fishing Licenses
* One-Day Jackson County Boating Permits
* Fuel and Boating Supplies
* Three Lake Area Boat Ramps
* Boat Waste Pump-out Station
* Pontoon Boat, Fishing Boat, Paddle Boat & Canoe Rentals

The History Of Pontoon Boats

I found that pontoon boats have an interesting history, laced with several companies claiming they were the first to create the pontoon boat. As with many inventions, fate has it that several think of the idea at the same time and end up developing and manufacturing the idea simultaneously. Such is the fact with pontoon boats.

"People familiar with Kayot pontoons tell the story of the owner of this auto parts store wanting pontoon boats for his family. After they fabricated the pontoon boats, people on the lake saw them and wanted one. The Kay Auto Parts Company was forgotten and Kay-Yacht Pontoon was founded later changing their name to Kayot Pontoons by the mid 1950's," reports Pontoonstuff.com
