 executed over 2 hours past the scheduled time.

This is the second botched execution in Ohio in two years. Last year Joseph L. Clark's execution was botched the same way when the prison staff could not find a vein, and it took over an hour to execute him by lethal injection.

Newton was convicted of killing a fellow inmate when the inmate kept giving up while playing chess. According to Associated Press Newton did not ask for clemency. He remained in a good mood the entire time, laughing and joking with guards, and even took a break to use the restroom.

According to CBS news Newton's last statement was short, "Yes, Boy I sure could go for some beef stew and a chicken bone" "That's it."

It is beyond belief the barbaric society that we live it. Great reporting. I findit appalling, i know a lot or maybe most people believe in capital punishment, I think it is insane, for punishment, in cases like Bundys' or where there is the fear of them escaping then yes, they need to be put to death to protect society. but for punishment it is stupid. What does it accomplish. Keeping them in prison for the rest of their life is punishment. I 'd rather be dead!

wow how retarded why in the world did they have that many issues getting a shunt in. They need to tell the people to drink some water at their last dinner. Would solve all the issues.

The article is about the botched execution, but the comments always stray away into different aspects. It's a debate. And yes, I feel if this guy was treated for mental illness, on the proper medications, both him and his victim my be alive today.He told a mental health professional he was going to kill someone in prison so he could spend the rest of his life there, and in the process of getting him ready for execution he was joking with the guards. Does this seem like someone who is competant?

I'm not sure what this snipit is about - Ohio not getting the execution on, or this man not deserving to die because you think he had mental issues...? The title indicates Ohio bashing, as does the first half of the article, while the second half and comments alude to disfavor of the execution. I'm confused.

Deez, thanks for this insiteful information. This man clearly had mental problems. He even told a mental health professional he was going to kill someone so he could spend the rest of his life in prison. Why wasn't he in solitary confinement, and treated with the proper medications?
