With the summer season quickly approaching, many people will take trips to the beach. A trip to the beach can be a great family outing. You can relax on the beach and catch some rays. You could also have a great time enjoying great water activities such as surfing, jet skis, swimming, and more. While the ocean is a wonderful vacation destination, there are some dangers associated as well. Here are three of the most dangerous things about the beach and how to avoid them.

The Sun

One of the most dangerous things about going to the beach is the sun. While the sun does wonderful things such as warming the earth and allowing us to have daylight, the sun can be very dangerous as well. It is no secret that skin cancer cases have been on the rise for many years. A lot of experts say that the sun and the increasing UV levels are a major cause of this epidemic.

On the bright side, damage from the sun can be minimized or stopped completely by just applying sunblock and sunscreen. Sunblock can help protect the skin from getting burned and also help protect the skin from all the UV rays that can harm it. It is important to pick a waterproof sunblock as well. Your vacation can quickly be ruined if you get a sun tan at the beach. It is also important to reapply sunblock throughout the day as well.

Jellyfish

Another danger that you could possibly face at the beach are jellyfish. Jellyfish stings are a common occurrence for humans that swim in the ocean. There are only a few species of jellyfish that their sting can actually be lethal. Most jellyfish stings are non fatal and are just painful and uncomfortable. One way to help prevent having encounters with jellyfish at the beach are to check the local beach information channels. A lot of times, reports of increases in jellyfish stinging can be a sign to stay out of the ocean.

If you are stung by a jellyfish it is important to first get out of the water. You don't need your body going into shock and drowning. Be sure to get first aid immediately. If there are life guards on duty, get help from them. They are usually trained in these types of situations. They may have some first aid available to help ease the pain and stinging.
