Too many times we have to work a schedule that makes us have weird sleep schedules, or reversed sleep times. That by it self can make us irritable and exhausted. So if you have reversed sleep times perhaps these tips can help you get enough sleep to function at your job. Let's face it sleeping by day it not the normal rhythm we all grew up on, but as adults we sometimes have the need for reversed sleep times. This can lead to weird sleep patterns, but we do it because we have to sleep. Granted I do not work third shift I work mostly third shift, but also four hours of the second shift. Twelve hour shifts are very hard on the body no doubt but that is where the money is at work.
I learned long ago to stay in that habit to make the weekends easier. My three back to back twelve hour shifts are hard to deal with anyways due to staff shortages but I always manage to come out Monday exhausted but happy. I need to sleep during the day and it is just that simple.
The Cave
My bedroom is a cave! Just kidding about that but that is our nickname for my bedroom. Since my bedroom is mine I can do it, I would not do this if it was my not my own room.
I have darkening blinds, dark curtains, and a blanket over the window to keep out the light. Sleep is very important to me, as it is to everyone but I hardly ever get enough there for I must make what sleep I do get the most restful.
The Fan or air conditioner & other sounds,
A fan runs year around on the weekends to provide cool air, and it also acts as a noise reducer. Granted some sounds will still get through on the weekends, because that's when my neighborhood comes alive with those folks who work the week and have yard work to do on the weekends.
A lawn mower is a comforting sound and will not wake me up, this I know because I have woken up and found my own lawn had been mowed as I slept. It's always a nice feeling to know that my boys will get out there and mow without being told too sometimes.
Turn off the phone
Sure my family and friends know I work during the weekends, so they don't call until after 4 or so. However there is always the bill collector or the telemarketer, who will call. It is a given so turn off the phone.
