Recently I was poking around some archives of newspapers doing some research for a paper I had to write. While doing this, I found a very disturbing article. After reading it I researched it in it's entirety on the Internet and found it to be true. Apparently a five year old girl, Lina Medina, gave birth to a healthy baby boy, in Peru, in 1939, of course by cesarean section. How did this happen, you might ask. Well, apparently it started when Lina began having menstrual cycles around eight months old. Then just after turning five years old, her parents noticed a somewhat large "tumor" growing from her stomach. When she was taken to the nearest town, a doctor did not confirm their suspicion, imagine their surprise when the Doctor says, it is not a tumor, it is a fetus, she is pregnant. To make matters worse sources say she was molested by her father, he was arrested and jailed on suspicion of incest, child molestation, and rape. But eventually let go due to a lack of evidence.

The baby's paternity was never, and has never to this day been stated, but many think the father of the baby boy is none other then Lina's father. The baby grew up to the age of 40 when he passed away due to a bone marrow disease. Lina is still alive and doing well, but from what I have read does not comment much on the situation. Many say she has either blocked it out, or does not remember.

Doctors that took care of her state that they biopsied her ovaries and she did have the ovaries of a mature female and the cause must be a hormonal disorder of some type, relating to the pituitary gland. Regardless, in the research I have read, what angers me is more time and effort was spent on her disorder and the medical research was spent on this issue of her menstruation at eight months, which I grant you was in itself very important, however I feel as if more emphasis should have been put towards who impregnated this little girl, and what was done about it. Even though many newspapers fallowed up on the story, and doctors tried to have authorities check into thing, as they did to some degree nothing was ever done. Still to this day nothing.
