Most children enjoy dressing up for Halloween each year, and many parents are able to find great costumes for them easily. However, children's costumes are becoming increasingly expensive, and especially for families with multiple children, outfitting their little ghosts and ghouls can get costly. In addition, sometimes children have their hearts set on dressing as a character that is not among the popular costumes hanging on the racks in stores.

My daughter Emily is known for this! In fact, this year, I'll be fabricating a Spongebob costume myself. The first year that she came up with a costume I could not find in stores, was the year she was three years old. Literally, the day after the Halloween before, when she was only two, she declared that next year she was going trick-or-treating "dressed up as a Pink Piggy!" Having years of experience in shopping for and purchasing children's costumes at that point, I knew right away that the only "Pink Piggy" costumes I had ever seen, had been for infants. I hoped maybe she would change her mind. I decided she would most likely change her mind a dozen times over the next year, and that I probably wouldn't have to worry about the "Pink Piggy" costume at all!

Not a chance. Not only did she not change her mind, but she reminded me that she wanted to be a Pink Piggy for Halloween almost every single day of that next year! When the costumes started popping up in stores the next Fall, I searched high and low for the coveted Pink Piggy costume, but found none. I resorted to fabricating the costume myself, and found I was able to do so quite easily, and for minimal expense. If you need a Pink Piggy costume, follow the directions here for a quick and inexpensive solution!

How adorable! A wonderful article. When my children were small (all 4 of them) I used to make their costumes as well. It started out as a money issue, but then became a yearly tradition! I loved it, the kids loved it, we still talk about some of the costumes they had as children! Now my daughters make costumes for my grand babies!
