Epic Movie (2007) Movie Review

Ok, enough is enough. I'm officially sick of these spoof films. I no longer wish to see them in any form. Scary Movie 5? Screw that. What used to be funny with such spoof films as The Naked Gun and Scary Movie is now dead. Scary Movie 4, Date Movie and now, Epic Movie have beaten the spoof genre to death and buried it in the backyard.

You know what I hate? When I watch a comedy and keep telling myself "I could have made that funnier". I don't want to do that, but dammit Epic Movie forces me to since the writers can't seem to make anything funny. This is from 2 of the 6 writers of Scary Movie!? It can't be, I don't think so. The movie is too stupid and immature, even for me! The opening scenes? Painfully unfunny. The Nacho Libre spoof? Extremely unfunny. The Willy Wonka spoof? Pretty much unfunny (I got a mild chuckle out of the sewer bit). The superman spoof? Kick me in the groin unfunny. The Chronicles of Narnia spoof? Shoot me in the head, now unfunny. I can go on forever, but why waste time talking about this stupid and gross film when I can be doing better things, like watching a better movie. I can't believe anyone associated with the original Scary Movie worked on this unfunny mess. This was shit on a stick.

Jayma Mays (Lucy) did get a few mild laughs out of me and played the role of the idiot perfectly. Adam Campbell (Peter) did not make me laugh once. He did ok in the role, I guess. Faune A. Chambers (Susan) did a decent job, but wasn't very funny. Kal Penn (Edward) did a good job and like Mays got a few mild laughs out of me.

Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer's directing is serviceable at best. They should of done more work on the script though and need to learn a few things on how to be funny.

The music is unmemorable. The film is loaded with rap music that fits the crappy nature of the film.
