Have you ever fantasized about being in a movie? I think everyone has at one time or another. I never actually thought about trying out for one. I live in a relatively small town in Indiana. It isn't like I live in California, Chicago, or New York City, so the chances of it were really insignificant. I thought about trying out for a play but never really gave it a lot of attention.

My son is in prison that is another whole different story. One thing that he does get to do, (yes I know that is another article, about the privileges that prisoners shouldn't have.) he gets to watch a lot of movies. He loves the Independent Films. I never really thought that much about them. His favorite actors are in Independent Films. When I read in the paper that there was going to be the third Independent Film shot here in the area I got online to see what it was about. I knew he would be thrilled and was going to send him the information in prison. Lonesome Jim was filmed here along with a children's' flick.

I knew of the producer of the movie. I graduated from high school with his brother and peripherally knew the rest of the family. When I went to the web-site I saw that they were having auditions and was casually scrolling down through the roles. Most movies have leading ladies, and handsome actors and actresses. Of course there was some of that. The main character had already been cast. G. Michael Gray from Vancouver Canada was the lead character. I will write more about him in the next segment. They were looking for specifics with photos of examples of each role they were looking for.

Takeaways
  • Have you ever fantasized about being in the movies?
  • Don't let fear of failure keep you from trying for what you want. Regret is worse than failure.
  • What my audition was like
Did You Know?
Sometimes roles call for specifics in looks. Not all roles are glamorous, handsome leading men and women.

Mike's son, Michael was in that movie too. He was an extra. it sounds like fun, love the comment about making love to a young handsome man. You should have kept it up and said, "But honey, there's no frontal nudity." That would have gotten him.

I wanted to be an actress when I was younger, but I couldn't stand the drill of auditioning. I even got trained an everything. Now I just do videos independently.

Awesome! I never wanted to be in a movie, but I did have fun as an unpaid extra for "Little Nicky".

Congratulations on getting the part! With the changes in technology over the last 10 years, there are going to be more and more independent films rolling in the future. Making a movie isn't as expensive as it used to be.

Gret article! Sounds like lots of fun! Long ago I was an extra (back in '82 or '83 - ABC Circle Films, "The Day After" about a nuclear bomb hitting KC; I lived in Lawrence, KS, then). I don't think I have the kind of talent a speaking role would take, but I often think about trying out for the community theater... Great article!

I loved it when Spencer For Hire was being filned in Boston, I would watch every week to see if my sister was an extra as they often asked her as she was one of the "people on the street". One day while visiting her I got to see the filming in front of a rather well known church in downtown. Rober Urich was very tall.
