We have all come across a dreadful customer service agent that did not solve our issues. Sadly, this has become very common place. In today's society, most customers believe that it is virtually impossible to receive great customer service. I have had many customers tell me that everything starts out great, until they experience a problem.

I've worked in the customer service industry for many years and have been on both sides of the spectrum. There have been occasions where I needed to contact a customer service representative and never got my issue resolved. I have to admit that there are representatives that do not know the purpose of their job and have no clue about solving your issue. However, there are many of us that love assisting customers and that is the reason we chose this career field.

Helping someone diagnose and then solving their problem makes us feel accomplished. No one wants to be frustrated with a product and then have someone on the other end of the phone say "Sorry, I can't help you". This would cause anyone to be discouraged with the company and never purchase from them again.

Sorry for the typo... that should have said "honesty".

I've also been on both sides of customer service, and although many people are very happy to help, some are not. Others have no idea what they're doing. Unfortunately this problem goes all the way up to management, and when management doesn't even care, customer service is basically dead. This is a widespread problem since dozens of articles on AC cover this subject. I've often wondered if customer service has changed because the customers have changed. Honest is as dead as customer service these days, and it seems that everyone wants something for nothing. Good article.
