In the last installment of the TeenSpeak Series we examined words used by teenagers that relate to sex. This installment is perhaps more crucial, in that the drug culture can mean the difference in life and death. Your awareness of the youth drug culture may help you know when it is time to intervene. Listening to your teen's language and behaviors can mean the difference between the destruction of their life on alcohol and drugs, or the early intervention to help them fight the pervasive drug use in their world.

As with the list of sex related words, this is not exhaustive. It will, however, give you information and clues you need to listen for to find out if your child or his/her friends are involved in drugs.

Good communication is essential to good parenting. You have to know what they are talking about in order to ever convince your teenager to talk to you.

The words that follow are common, slang terms for drugs, dealers, highs, and drug related paraphernalia.

I'm so behind the times - thanks for this very important information. These kids are just too smart for their own britches.
