Today's job market is chock full of new types of innovative jobs that never existed before. Even so, if you are in a certain age bracket beware where you stick your foot in. There are some areas of employment that may reject you outright.Nevertheless, there are some markets that offer job opportunities at any age. Searching on the Internet in the employment websites it is amazing the numerous number of technical jobs that are available. These jobs are in demand all over the country, in the public and private sectors.
If you are a job hunter be sure to have a well prepared resume. Remember to market yourself effectively. It is a good idea to keep abreast of new technology. Even new candidates coming out of college sometimes find themselves in the predicament of not having certain skills that are innovative and high tech. It's a changing world out there and careers are always changing. Getting stuck in a rut will not cut it.
If you want to train for a new career after forty consider your options very carefully. There are some fields that for many reasons limit their employment prospect by age. Although this is unethical to be realistic it does exist. There is age discrimination out there. For example in the teaching profession many young teachers are considered before their elder counterparts. If you definitely have your heart set on teaching or the education system you might consider the following.
If you are a male you would probably be in high demand. If you already have a degree in the sciences or math you might easily consider one of the special teaching programs that invite candidates with previous degrees to teach. They may even pay your way and offer you a job. Of course there is always a catch. You may have to devote a certain amount of time to a high need district in return.
Other options that may be available would be supervisory positions. Principal and assistant principal positions are available for the more mature candidates.
