Summer Beach Essentials: Must-haves for Your Beach Vacation

On Memorial Day we not only celebrate those who have served, but we also begin the beach season! If you are like me, you cannot wait to dip your toes in the sand! Those lucky enough to live in close proximity to the beach will most likely avoid it on Memorial Day weekend, but those who are traveling will need to be sure that they are fully prepared to make the most of their beach vacation. This means ensuring that all the essentials are packed and ready to go when the waves begin to call.

1. Beach bag-

A beach bag is one of the most important things to have when venturing to any beach. This handy tote will make it easier to carry all of your beach fundamentals when making the long trek across the burning sand to find that perfect spot. Beach bags can be purchased most anywhere. Many buy this before heading out on their beach vacation from the local Wal-Mart or similar store, but you can always pick one up in one of the many beach shops at your destination. It is even possible to make your own out of beach towels!

2. Beach towel-

Speaking of beach towels, this should also be on your list of things to bring to the beach. No one wants sand stuck in uncomfortable places! By toweling off after getting out of the water you reduce the amount of sand that will stick to your skin. You may also want to use your beach towel to sit on when taking a shore break if you are not going to bring a beach chair. If you can't find one to your liking try your hand at making your own beach towel.

3. Sunscreen-

We all know the risks of sun exposure so don't forget your sunscreen! Make sure you have an adequate supply for everyone in your group. There are some new types on the market this beach season that tout continuous exposure. Supposedly these offer superior protection in comparison to those already on the market. It can't hurt right? If you are taking children it might be handy to purchase one of the continuous spray products to make application easy and fuss-free. This is also nice once the kids are sandy, this way you don't have to rub in the sand along with the SPF. No matter what type you bring with you, dermatologists recommend that it have at least an SPF of 15.
