Mimi's Café in Louisville, Kentucky

Mimi's Café is a relatively new restaurant located off Hurstbourne Lane in Louisville, Kentucky. My friends, Claudia and Cheryl, and I recently decided to try it, although we knew very little about the place. We were not disappointed!

We did not know what kind of cuisine to expect from Mimi's Café. Upon entering, we were surprised to see that the restaurant was decorated in the style of a New Orleans jazz café. Signs, posters, and musical instruments adorn the walls. The ceiling in our dining room was extraordinarily high, with a small balcony above. On the balcony was a drum set. I was unsure if the drum set is there simply for decoration, or if Mimi's sometimes has live musical entertainment.

Our waiter, Mike, was very friendly and knowledgeable. He gave us plenty of time to look over the menu and offered suggestions when we asked. The menu featured a wide selection of soups, salads, sandwiches, pastas, and other entrees. Cheddar broccoli quiche, jambalaya pasta, garlic shrimp spaghettini, and grilled beef liver were some of the more unique entrees listed on the menu.

There was a limited variety of appetizers; we ordered the zucchini parmesan ($6.99). For our entrees, we settled on Quiche Lorraine ($8.49); the Bleu Cheese, Chicken, and Walnut salad ($11.59); and the French Quarter burger ($8.99). Overall, the menu items were very affordable, with even the most expensive steak entrée costing only $15.49. Most entrees came with at least one specialty side dish, and adding soup or a salad to the meal cost only one dollar. Mimi's also has a good variety of teas, coffees, and wines on the menu.
