I'm probably going to ruffle some feathers here, but here goes. My husband is not the man of my dreams and I'll wager that very few women marry such men.

Now, I'm not saying that my husband is a bad man....he's a great guy. I love him to death, but he's not my first love, not even close.

My first love was a bad boy. I've always been attracted to older men with wicked nasty streaks and he certainly fit the bill. Now the man I married is more boy next door.

Every woman has a fantasy about the perfect man and for men out their who don't know it....I'll let you in on it. He rides up to her house in whatever mode of transportation she deems sexiest...for me, it was a motorcycle. He's often tall, dark, and handsome, very debonair with style and class....and if he's loaded, that always helps.

But what comes to your door is fumbling for his keys, forgetting his words, saying cheezy pick-up lines, and takes you to the most romantic place on earth...in his mind. Of course, you send up a prayer to the date gods when it ends early. Let me let you in on a little secret boys; that emergency phone call isn't a something that can't wait till tomorrow...it's her friend calling to bail her out.

Then you find someone who is decent, who could pass for a real boyfriend. You date and you fall for this person. You get married and 'settle down.' It is exactly what it sounds. For those who are not married, let me tell you. Marriage isn't about endless making love, giving each other gifts very day, and waking up wiht the birds singing daily. Eventually, bills have to get paid, the rent comes due, you have to go to work and somewhere in all that mess comes life that includes cooking, eating, watching tv, kids, seeing the family, and on and on.

If romance novels were written based on real love instead of what the writers glorify it as, instead of saying this...

"He climbed the stairs to her room. It was lit with candles and she was in a glorious long robe that accentuated her long, flowing red hair in the moonlight. She turned to him, her blue eyes glittering as he took her in his arms and he whispered in her ear, "This is our night princess...."

It would say something more like this:
