While I am not Italian by blood, I consider myself to be an honorary Italian by temperament. And while I enjoy Italian Semolina pasta as an honorary Italian, a problem with traditional Italian Semolina pasta is the fact that Semolina pasta has practically no dietary fiber content. Golden Grain Mission Whole Grain Pasta is the perfect solution to the nutrition problem of traditional pasta.

Golden Grain Mission makes a variety of pasta shapes from wholegrain products like wheat, rice, and oats. While the flavor of this wholegrain pasta does not do justice to the flavor of traditional Semolina Italian pasta, it is a close enough approximation for most purposes. The texture of Golden Grain Mission pasta is grittier than traditional pasta, so one should not expect the creaminess and smoothness that one usually associated with pasta, but there is a firmness and a substantiveness to the pasta that more than makes up for the lack of similarity to Semolina.

If one can get around the difference in texture between traditional pasta and Golden Grain Mission pasta, then you will find that Golden Grain Mission pasta is an adequate replacement for traditional pasta in most any dish that calls for pasta. You can even use Golden Grain Mission pasta on its own with some olive oil or butter, some Italian seasoning, and some salt for a really quick pasta meal with the health benefits of olive oil and fiber in your diet. I also enjoy making pasta sauces from scratch, and I have found that the grittiness of the wholegrain pasta allows the pasta to pick up and retain more of the pasta sauce in each bite of pasta. In many ways, I actually prefer the Golden Grain Mission wholegrain pasta to traditional pasta due its healthfulness and its ability to compliment my favorite Italian dishes.

Takeaways
  • Golden Grain Mission pasta contains three whole grains.
  • Golden Grain Mission has a grittier texture than traditional Semolina pasta.
  • Each serving of Golden Grain contains five grams of fiber and eight grams of protein.
