Star Trek Online, Open beta runs from January 12, 2010 to January 26, 2010. If you like Star Trek, you may enjoy this game. This is the first massive multiplayer game for star trek. Testing out the beta is actually a
good thing so that you have an idea of what you are getting into when it is finally release. If you had already preordered Star Trek Online, the head start will start on January 29. 2010, but the game itself won't be shipped until February 2, 2010.
Like any program or game, there is going to be problems. That is a given. You can't expect anything to be perfect and it takes time to get used that way or close to that way. The beta does have its issues, but still it is a great game to play regardless of if you are a trekkie or not. With this beta, they are only opening up to 16 levels for at least the beginning. They could later on open up more levels. The main thing they are trying to do is to get everyone to find the bugs as they play and report them.
There are some people whom are big gamers whom will get through those levels rather fast and then you have other people whom may only play an hour or so in the game. This game is really for probably both hard core and casual gamers. Everyone has a different play style in the sense some people will level up faster than others but still enjoy the game.
The game itself takes a little getting used to playing, but once you get going, it can be real fun. The game itself does encourage you to work with others to finish the mission. There are some missions that it can take you hours and hours to just pass it because you keep dying in there. When you die, you are spawned. At least you don't have to start from the beginning like most games you play if you die about 3 times.
Having said that, there are many choices you can make throughout the game. You can choose your species and what your character looks like to the kind of weapons you carry, to what your ship looks like. From the beginning, you don't start with a very good ship, but as you rank up, you will get better ships as you hit a certain rank.
