Great Starter Guitar: Review of Epiphone SG Special Guitar

To start off, i will be reviewing the Epiphone SG special electric guitar. It definitely has is ups and downs so keep reading to find them.

PRO'S:
-Great mahogany wood.
-Great gloss finish that doesn't come off easily.
-Sharp clean tones from the dual humbucker pickups.
-Beautiful hardware.
-decent stock strings, but could be replaced for better playability.
-easy playability on the neck and down closer to the headstock
-very low action on the strings
-great for sliding because of the nice gloss finish.
-cheap price of $150.00
-comes in cherry red, wood, or ebony
-2 epiphone open coil humbuckers

CON'S:
-
loose hardware that needs to be tightened down.
-bad neck to body construction.
-very loose neck from cheap bolts
-neck bends out of place and will snap if not careful.
-tone knob came loose and unattached from the inside of the guitar.
-loose pots on the inside of the guitar.
-output jack needs to be tightened down after playing for a while.
-also be careful, this is no toy. if you are a kid, just don't break it.

-scale 24.75"
-nut width 1.68"
-neck: maple bolt on
-fretboard: rosewood
-inlay: dot
-body alder/maple
- many different color choices to choose from. cherry red, brown sunburst, and an ebony, which is a very dark, flat black.

Great review! I always believed Epiphone is a great an instrument as Gibson (except for, like you said, the loose hardware and electronics from the overseas mass-production). This is definitely a great starter guitar, but any serious student should consider moving up to the SG Standard, with its set neck and construction built to Gibson's exact standards. Last I looked, one could be had for only $499.00. Cool article, dude! You really know your shit!
