We've waited and hoped for the final installment that would complete the Pirates trilogy. At long last our patients have paid off and we have received our wish. Despite the fact that Pirates two and three were shot back to back, they have done a very good job of keeping the last one in hiding and used their free time wisely.
I personally have never been a big fan of the third in a trilogy. There are certain stories that are set in motion throughout the first two that I expect to be played out or resolved. There are a very few good third movies and Pirates 3 has made it onto the list. The one fact I find humorous about these three films is that although part one set the stage, two and three are actually the same story and is only linked to the first through characters alone. It's an interesting format that was caused by the popularity of the first film and I find it a compelling change from what has become expected of trilogies.
As those that have seen the second film know, Jack Sparrow has been eaten by the Kraken and sent to Davy Jones Locker. The crew has been searching for a way to the world's end so they can cross over to the next life and sail Jack back from his personal hell within the locker. In the meantime the new villain, Lord Cutler Beckett of the East India Trading Company, who arose in the second movie, has enslaved Davy Jones and his crew. Using Davy's removed heart as leverage he forces them to begin hunting down every pirate in ocean. The pirates are running ragged and now have no choice but to call a meeting of the Brethren Court, the order that originally created the pirate code. We discover that Jack is in fact one of the nine pirate lords of the group which is why they have such a desperate need to get him back.
The only problem I had with the storyline was the very bizarre love stories that went on during the action. We learn more about Davy Jones and the woman he loved, or rather the sea goddess he loved. The reasons behind why he cut out his heart and hide it away become clear as well. It turns out that Jones octo-crabby physical complexion is caused by the fact he has been doing his job of ferrying soul that die at sea to the afterlife. That is why the ones that do swear to him end up sticking to the boat and turning to fish people like him. It's kind of like a thick shell of sailor soul residue, the Flying Dutchman is in fact not that menacing underneath. All this makes you wonder if the incentive to do a do a good job would be a little higher if the consequences for doing it badly were the same, especially for a sewer sanitation officer. But leaving that aside, there was also a weird love entanglement between Will and Elizabeth during this final film. Each step they took closer to Jack and Davy Jones the farther away they would drift. At one point you actually assume that they have given up on one another all together. In the spirit of tying off loose ends the writers have them getting married at the end by Captain Barbossa, during a sea battle, while the ship is in a whirlpool, as they are fighting off fish people. If they consider that the makings of a wedding then I guess it really is all downhill after marriage because how do you top that?
Jack plays a subtle roll in this film; he isn't on camera every time you're looking up at the scene. This is probably due to the fact that there are many more elements moving in the last film that there isn't enough time to focus on any one character for far too long. However, Jack does provide us with all those hilarious one liners that we have grown to love. As a bonus in the last film we do get a look into Jack's mind as he has gone completely mad from his time spent in the locker. He does snap back to reality when he is needed but a lot of his time is spent reasoning things out with tiny Jacks that are hiding in his dreadlocks. It all makes you wonder how Jack manages to stay alive at all, or at least why he still has all his limbs.
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End is a must see, especially those of you that have seen the first two and can not die happy. If I were a pirate named 'Five-Thumbs' Keindel I would give this film a four out of five of those thumbs. However, since I'm not a pirate and not in the habit of collecting that many thumbs I'll leave you with the solace that you should definitely go see this movie. Also, if you are going in the next week you may want to go early as I predict the seating in the theatre will be filling up very quickly.
So until the next review take care and hopefully I will be writing to you soon.

haha, just goes to show how two different people can watch the same movie and see totally different films. I hated the third pirates, and I'm still sad about it to this day...

This was kind of dissapointing actually. However, I loved the last half which was great action-packed fun. Thanks!
