Sony's PS3 Goes Up Against Nintendo's Wii

The PS3 has been a total disaster to this point, in contrast Nintendo's Wii has been in the words of Borat "Great Success". One of the best and most unique things about the Wii is the Virtual Console, the ability to download classic games in nintendo and other companies library. Anybody who says the Wii is just a fad obviously doesn't own one. This system has serious staying power.

Sony and Microsoft better believe it the Wii is a legitimate threat to their sales, just look at the Wii's sales numbers last month compared to the other systems. According to Gamasutra.com in April the PS3 sold 83,000 units, Xbox 360 sold 174,000 units and the Wii-drumroll please- 360,000 units! The PS3 does have some great games coming soon, but thats a pretty wide margin and the Wii may get stronger with a new Mario coming out this year. Just remember that Mario is still the biggest gaming icon and any Mario game that is released will most likely outsell anything on the market at the time of its release.

The Wii certainly appeals to a wider audience, especially woman and young children. Gone are the days that complex button combinations deter the larger demographic. A simple motion and your playing along with the die-hard gamers. Nintendo is betting that hi-tech graphics and fancy HD and Blu-Ray DVD players are not what real gamers clamor for. What gamers really want is a company to make sure the game they're playing is fun and addicting. The disaster that was the PS3 launch has translated into poor sales and poor reviews. It just goes without saying that a brand-new car is not always as good as a classic.

Nintendo's Wii has also included a fully-functional web browser. Opera web browser for the Wii is really intuitive and easy to navigate. Watching videos on youtube on a big-screen television while laying in bed or on a couch is priceless. You can pretty much do anything you could on a PC except download stuff. A keyboard is in the works, but for now its menu's and web pages are just fine.
