Ever since it was evident that Barry Bonds was going to break Hank Aaron's all-time homerun record Barry Bonds has been met with nothing but backlash. Hank Aaron is one of the greatest baseball players of all-time and all of baseball, the fans, media, and even the commissioner don't seem to want to have anything to do with Barry Bonds passing Hank Aaron after his alleged steroid use and his unlikable attitude.

This weekend Barry Bonds didn't make any new fans. This weekend Barry Bonds told reporters that when it comes to memorabilia from his homerun chase he's not really worried about the Hall of Fame, meaning he might not give them jack squat. The Hall of Fame was asked about the situation and they said Barry Bonds had not indicated to them at all that he has any plans of giving anything to the Hall of Fame. In fact, Barry Bonds hasn't given them much in the past either.

The Hall of Fame does not have any bats, balls, jerseys or hats from Barry Bonds' 500th homerun or from his single season homerun record. The only thing in the Hall of Fame marking Barry Bonds' career is a pair of cleats when he became the first player to reach the 400 homerun and 400 steals club.

When Barry Bonds does things like this it is hard to like the guy. I don't feel sorry for Barry Bonds when people talk about how much of a jerk he is because he brings it on himself by doing things like this.

However, I'm with Barry Bonds. Why would he give any of his memorabilia to the Hall of Fame? For the past couple of years just about everybody involved in baseball is calling him a cheat, the commissioner and Hank Aaron both refuse to have anything to do with his homerun chase, the fans hate him, and the media blast him. Some people will never recognize him as the true homerun king, some people will not vote for him for the Hall of Fame and some people want an asterisk next to his name in the record books. So if so many people aren't going to recognize Barry Bonds as the true homerun king, then why do they want all his memorabilia?

Takeaways
  • Barry Bonds indicated he would not give any memorabilia to the baseball Hall of Fame
  • Why should Bonds give baseball anything when most people treat him like a cheat?
  • If Bonds keeps all the memorabilia at home then at least it will be appreciated every day.

Good article. The whole thing is messed up (the Bonds thing - not your article!)

its an honor for the HOF to want anybody's memorabilia including Barry Lamar. If he doesn't want to give anything to the Hall then fine... they shouldn't put anything about him in at all, then. he's an ass.

I like the article but I hate Barry Bonds. Please read my article about Game of shadows.

Good stuff LAH. I love the Hall of Fame. The museum is a wonderful place with tons of interesting stuff in it. The presence of various Barry Bonds stuff on display will neither make nor hurt the HOF. They can create appealing displays commemorating his achievements either with or without his stuff. To me, it's interesting to see Ty Cobb's spikes or Babe Ruth's bat because they're so different from what players use today. Barry Bonds' bat - eh, not so much. Perhaps 50 years from now it'll be a different story, but then again perhaps 50 years from now Bonds and his heirs will be happy to give stuff to the Hall.

He should hold on to it because who knows what he wants to do with it after his retirement? While not retired, does he want to open an All Star Cafe like Ken Griffey Jr., or does he want to open his own museum with maybe his and his father's baseball items? Who knows? I feel though that Barry himself should just keep it and then decide when the time is right for him, what he wants to do with everything.

The media has created this SNAFU. Let the man make his own decision and the Hall of Fame will deal with it at that time.
