This summer, the phrase this summer, is a very popular phrase in the entertainment business to use when beginning a movie preview. This fall and this Christmas are also popular, but do not provide the same authority and command as this summer. Movie previews are wonderful; they give an insight into the premise of a movie. For many unsuccessful comedies, the preview will show the best parts of the movie in a three minute preview, leaving us to sit through eighty seven minutes of bad material, allowing us to leave the theater saying, "It would have been funny, but all of the best parts were in the preview". But movie previews do capture the attention of the audience. Mainly the movie preview voice captures our attention, and for me, the types of sayings the preview will use to describe the particular movie.

Comedies and romantic dramas are usually logical, they may use a line such as, "Laugh so hard, laugh will actually come out of your nose", or "Cry so much, it will be the only thing you remember about this movie". But the great movie preview lines are created for the action movies. Action movie previews always use an outlandish saying such as, "Twist your brain action", or "A surreal occurrence, with a possible out of body experience". But on television several weeks ago I saw a movie preview in which the outlandish line used was, "This movie is a mind bending adventure".

A mind bending adventure, I would like to know who thought of this phrase, because I never ask somebody what did you do this weekend, and they reply, I had a Mind Bending Adventure, what did you do, went fishing. To call anything a mind bending adventure is a very arrogant way to express an idea. That phrase creates a ton of expectation for an individual or movie, when said. I no if a friend said, "Andrew, tonight we are going on a mind bending adventure", we better not just go out to a party, because I would be extremely disappointed. My friend better transform into a rhino, let me sit on his back, as he runs through cars and buildings. That would absolutely be a mind bending adventure.
